“Every Year The Women Of New York Leave The Past Behind & Look Forward To The Future… This Is Known As Fashion Week…” – Carrie Bradshaw
New York Fashion Week, NYFW to those in the know and the hashtag that never gets old, is where the New York fashion crowd come to mingle, not touch carbs and enjoy the latest collections. For fashion PRs, its 7 days of hell, for productions companies sleep becomes something for the week and for the socialites, well, it just doesn’t get any better.
So why is it that this week, despite all the hardships it involves, it still one of the most amazing, unworldly and favorite calendar weeks of the year? Simply put, because it’s FASHION week. Designers worldwide flood the fashion capital to show their latest collections, debut the latest trends and to simplify it more, show us what they got!
For the Fall/Winter 13 shows this is no different, we finally get to find out why John Galliano has been doing at De La Renta’s atelier; we get to see the best of the best designs – Carolina Herrera, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein – and work out who will evolve from ‘rookie’ model of the season to the next Vogue cover girl. Today kicked off in style and the next 7 days will only be bigger and better.
For me, in my newly acquired junior PR role, the next 7 days will be interesting – little sleep, lots of caffeine and hundreds of emails by the hour – but I’m exactly where I want to be… NYFW, challenge accepted.
